Straighten curly hair using a hair straightener

Anyone who has straight hair dreams of a head of curls. However, anyone who has a bunch of curls wants straight hair. This probably sounds familiar to many. Fortunately, a lot can be done about it with the help of the right products. With the help of a hair straightener you can turn a bunch of dull curls into straight, shiny hair. It is of course very important that you care for your hair properly. Use a good shampoo, conditioner and use a hair mask regularly. You can also use protective sprays, serums and oils for daily care.

Wash the hair

Shampoo

Proper hair care starts with washing. Curly hair needs intensive care because it is a lot more fragile and sensitive than straight hair. Therefore, always use a mild shampoo. Preferably as natural as possible. You can also choose to use a shampoo for curly hair. This contains exactly the ingredients your hair needs.

Cream rinse

Straightening your hair takes a serious toll on the quality of your hair. Curly hair is always drier than straight hair. When you want to straighten curly hair, it becomes even drier. That is why it is also very important to take good care of the hair by means of a conditioner. The longer you leave the conditioner in, the better the ingredients can penetrate your hair.

Hair mask

To keep your hair beautiful, it is good to give your hair a big boost once a month with a hair mask. You can buy a hair mask at the drugstore or at the hairdresser. A hair mask can also easily be made yourself. You can do this with olive oil or coconut fat. Divide the olive oil or coconut fat over (towel) dry hair and let it soak in for as long as possible. You can even choose to do this at night and go to sleep with it. Then place a tea towel on your pillow for protection. A towel can also be used, but this has the disadvantage that it makes your hair frizzy faster.

Dry the hair

Before straightening the hair, it is important that the hair is completely dry. Never use a hair straightener on wet hair, as this will cause it to break very quickly! For the quality of your hair, it is always best to simply let it air dry. However, you can do a lot of preliminary work with the hair dryer to straighten your hair. When you blow-dry your hair, first use a spray that protects the hair from heat. Start blow-drying at the top of the crown and blow-dry straight down. This way you straighten the hair while blow-drying. Make sure all layers of hair get dry. With thick hair, the ‘intermediate layers’ remain moist for a very long time.

Straighten the hair

To straighten your hair, you need a good hair straightener. People who have naturally curly hair often have very thick hair. A high temperature is required to make this steep. Use a hair straightener that reaches a temperature of at least 220 degrees Celsius.

Before you start straightening it is good to use a serum or oil. This gives the hair the right care and protects against the heat of the hair straightener. When you straighten your hair, it is best to do this in small strands at a time. This takes a very long time, but ultimately gives the best result.

Grab the bottom strand of your hair, and secure the rest of your hair with a clip so that it doesn’t get in the way. When straightening the strand, do it slowly, from top to bottom. You often have to do the same strand several times before the hair becomes completely straight. If the lock is steep, you can take another lock and do the same with it. Repeat until you have straightened all the hair.

Then, to prevent frizzy hair, you can spray some hairspray into a hairbrush and brush your hair with it. This also gives your hair a nice shine!
