Hard and soft janker

Sjanker is an ulcer that is mainly located around and on the genitals, but can also occur elsewhere on the skin or mouth. Even in the mouth, chanker is sometimes found. We distinguish between soft and hard chanker. Soft chancre is an isolated infectious disease that manifests itself as an ulcer. Loud chancre is a precursor to the seriously transmissible disease syphilis. Soft sjanker has a soft edge and a gray to yellow batter, hard sjanker has a hard edge. Treatment is necessary to prevent further infection. With hard chancre, without treatment, damage will occur to the heart, brain or other organs after years.

What is a chanker?

A chanker is a sore, often on or around the genitals. It may be a symptom of a venereal disease. A chanker is also called an ulcer. We distinguish the soft chanker and the hard janker.

Soft whiner

The soft chanker is also called the soft or tender chanker. This is not a sore per se, but an infectious disease that is transmitted through sexual intercourse. The incubation period, i.e. the period between infection and the first symptom, lasts 1 to 14 days. The causative agent is the bacterium Haemophilus ducreyi. First, a small skin lump appears that feels painful. A pus-filled blister then forms. A uclus (an ulcer) will often develop within one day. This bleeds easily and is painful. In most cases the ulcer is half to two centimeters in size, but can sometimes grow up to six centimeters in size. In most cases, multiple ulcers develop. The lymph nodes in the groin may feel painful. Soft chanker is mainly seen in developing countries, Africa, Asia and the US. It is relatively rare in Europe.

Hard guy

A hard chancre is a harbinger of syphilis. This is a serious transmissible venereal disease. The causative agent is a bacterium. The first symptom is sores around the genitals, mouth or anus. Sores can also develop on the fingers, especially if there are wounds. The bacteria spread through the body via the blood. This causes spots to appear all over the body. The hands and feet in particular show these spots. In a later stage, flu symptoms such as fever, headache, sore throat, fatigue and swollen lymph nodes occur. Hair loss can also occur. This sometimes causes bald spots to appear on the scalp. Without treatment, inflammation of the eye can develop. After years, damage can even occur to the brain, heart and bones. The ulcer will eventually disappear after one to three months, but the contagiousness to others remains.

What do the sores look like?

It is important to recognize the difference between hard and soft chanker. Soft chanker is an ulcer with a soft edge and a gray to yellow coating. The sores hurt. Hard chanker has a hard edge and is tissue-colored. The sores do not hurt. This is the main difference between the two. In addition, soft chancre is a venereal disease in itself, and hard chanker is a precursor to syphilis.

Therapy

In case of complaints, a culture will always be taken so that the causative agent can be discovered. This is necessary for proper treatment. Therefore, do not continue to suffer from the above complaints for too long, but visit your doctor as soon as possible.

Mild chancre is easy to cure. An antibiotic is administered, often by injection. A commonly used antibiotic for this is erythromycin, which works against gram-positive bacteria. Sometimes it is necessary to treat the lymph nodes in the leis when they are very swollen. The pus is sucked out with an injection needle.

Hard sjanker is aimed at curing syphilis. Syphilis can be detected through blood tests. Pregnant women are always tested for syphilis because the disease can be passed on to the baby. The disease is easily treated with antibiotics. This can be done by injection. This often consists of one to three injections, with a week between each injection. The earlier the disease is discovered, the better and faster it can be treated.

It is possible to get hard or soft chancre a second time. So healing does not mean that you have become immune to it. It is therefore important to prevent contamination. The partner(s) will also have to be informed: they may also be infected. Moreover, your hard or soft chancre may have been contracted from one of these partners. Mild chancre is mainly contracted in developing countries, Asia, Africa and the US. It is therefore an imported disease within Europe. Hard chanker is common within European borders.
