What are energy guzzlers?

Energy guzzlers are people or things that consume energy. When things go wrong, you feel the energy disappear from your body when you are in the vicinity of something or someone who falls into this category. It’s a shame and not necessary, as a human being you have control over it. And yet we do not always act on it, even though afterwards we “whine” about being tired, not having enough energy, etc.

Energy

Energy is very special, because without having done anything physical you can be exhausted and even with a lot of work you can still be bursting with energy, but also exhausted after a normal night’s sleep or bright and cheerful after skipping half the night. So you cannot explain it in muscle strength, work done or not done, etc. It is partly in the body, but also partly in the mind.

Healthy living

Of course it goes without saying that you can lay a good foundation with healthy food, enough sleep and exercise, but that’s not all. A healthy diet consists of lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, limited sugar and (fast) carbohydrates and unsaturated fats. Sleeping is different for each person, but think of an average of about 7 hours and exercising, well, that is also very personal. But at least half an hour a day is recommended. It is preferable to go towards the hour and consider all kinds of exercise.

Keep energy with you

Given the fact that there are always people around who drain energy, there are some tools you can use to more or less shield your energy. But start with the awareness process around saying goodbye to people who drain energy. This is not always possible at work, but it is easier in private life. After all, friends but also family are fun to be with when energy is flowing back and forth. But if it becomes a continuous one-way street towards one of the people around you, then the person who is most open to business almost automatically loses out when it comes to energy loss.
As if the energy guzzler has a radar for it. He or she may be slurping for a variety of reasons, sometimes without even realizing it, but if you want to use your energy better, you need to stop this process.

First yourself, then help the slurper if necessary!

If you want to help that person, it is still important to first protect yourself against the energy guzzler. You can do this by shielding yourself from the outside world. Your senses work fine, but people just can’t get to you. There are several ways to do this, but a common and quick to apply one is the egg. Just think of Lady Gaga who literally came on stage in an egg, but that is the perfect protection. You see, hear, feel and smell everything, but people cannot touch you, everything bounces off your skin, as it were. Visualize that egg around you and you protect yourself. But you can also wrap a large protective cloak around yourself in your mind. Think of such a large, warm, heavy cloak that kings used to wear. You don’t feel that heaviness, but it does protect you against outside attacks and your personal energy leaks.
What is a slightly different angle is the imaginary circle around you. You imagine a large circle around you with a large cross through it. This is an ancient magical sign of wholeness.

Practice it every now and then and experience it, because if you need it for a moment, your mind will take it for granted when such an energy guzzler is near you.

Where is the irritation?

In addition, it is good to be alert if irritation arises. Where do you feel it first in your body and what does it do to that part of your body. Breathe into it, as it were, it is that part of your body that particularly needs energy, otherwise you will be eaten empty again. If you have the opportunity, it is good to do something physical at that moment that is also meaningful. If you are at home, just wipe down a window or the kitchen cupboards. Just knock out some clothes or sweep the sidewalk. At work you are going to copy some things that were already ready to be copied. Clear your desktop or clean out a drawer.

Helping the energy guzzler

Provided that not everyone wants to be helped, you can make an attempt. Very humane. However, this is only possible when you protect yourself. You can argue with it, but usually it doesn’t happen. If you speak rationally about what is going on with the other party, this person will also feel for a moment that there is no energy to be had from you. The penny will either drop or not. After all, for many people it is a form of attention and if this cannot be turned into something constructive, then this person will not quickly start using it. If you think you can reverse the process with the person, then an attempt is always good. Otherwise, stay away and just protect yourself. After all, you are not responsible for the whole world, but you are responsible for yourself.

Careful with energy

Be careful with your energy and make sure you dose it, because if you are used to losing a lot of energy, you may have too much energy once you have managed to reverse that process. So dose, because too much energy, which you cannot get rid of, is not good either. By doing something, the excess energy will flow away and you will feel for a moment which energy level feels most comfortable.

The leak

  • Once you get the big picture, there are always other moments when your energy can just run away. People who live too much in the past deprive themselves of a lot of energy. Shame. The past is important to learn from, but with this experience you move into the future.
  • If you are constantly rocking in your chair, continuously moving your legs while sitting or unconsciously drumming with your hands, you are leaking energy. Sometimes it can also mean that you have too much energy and your body is trying to get rid of it. But in that case, by exercising, you are doing something good with your energy.
  • Chewing gum can also be such an energy drain. If you consciously chew gum to get fresh breath, keep your teeth nice and clean, etc., then that’s fine, but think about how often you chew gum without thinking. That mindless chewing costs you energy.

Finally

Enough energy, but keep it with you, dose it and use it optimally. Energy is precious and yours!
