Women and hairdressers

How difficult is the relationship between women and hairdressers? According to the studies, quite difficult, as figures in the media regularly show. A 2010 study from Canada went a little further and also provides reasons and why. A study for women in every respect.

Head hair

Head hair was originally functional, but it has not been seen that way for a long time. It has become part of ourselves, part of how we present ourselves and certainly as important as clothing and make-up. With the overall picture you describe how you want to come across. That also makes it so difficult when something doesn’t go the way you want. After all, you can replace clothes, shoes, jewelry or makeup when you present yourself in front of the mirror. Only if your hair is the wrong color or is not cut properly, you can only try something with some trickery. Not saying that it will work or that you can realize your presentation. and bad hair day was born.

Health

In addition, hair has now also become something that radiates youth and health and that we want to hold on to at all costs. A good haircut, but also a healthy color whatever that may be, is important for the overall outfit. We are very inspired by popular film and music women.

Survey results

Influence

The survey showed that the lack of influence is a major bottleneck. No fewer than 83% of the women surveyed thought this was the worst problem involving hair. Both at the hairdresser, if you indicate what you want, but also if your hair does not look the way you had in mind in the morning. The art and craft only helps to create the right picture for a small group of women.

Listen

In addition, only 43% of women think that the hairdresser really listens carefully to what they want, 40% think that the hairdresser simply listens poorly and sometimes has to indicate something in between.
The advice given by the hairdresser was just as important. Just under 40% thought the advice given by the hairdresser was good, the rest thought the advice did not suit the face or they received no advice at all.

Stubborn

Many women were also stubborn in the sense that they had a cut in mind, were told that the hairdresser was not sure whether this was suitable for the hair or face, and yet they had the hairstyle in question measured. 18% of these women were completely satisfied, but most women did not find it according to the picture. They do realize that the blame was largely their own. 9% have become so angry that they will never go to this hairdresser again (because the haircut was not good). It is unclear whether it has to do with a stubborn woman who wants a haircut that will not work with her hair/face or whether the hairdresser simply cut it wrong.

Colour

Color is a very special phenomenon, because many women have an ideal color in mind. Have seen it in a magazine or on television. But in the magazines color may have been worked on and the stars have had someone at their head for hours to perfect it. Not to say that it is self-evident that you can simply copy the desired color. Of course, the subsurface also plays an essential role in this. Sometimes decolorization is necessary and then the color outcome can be approximately determined, but not with certainty. But hair that has never been colored before can also turn out slightly differently.
Knowing this, there is still a lot of grumbling among women, because 56% are not completely satisfied with the dyed color. Of the 56%, a third are not at all satisfied and have started working on it again, either themselves or at the hairdresser.

Next customer

Strictly speaking, you are all just a number at the hairdresser. You finish and the next person takes your seat. This does not alter the fact that the passionate man or woman is much more concerned with the hairstyle of the person sitting in the chair. He/she will be more likely to think along, come up with alternatives and, above all, be honest about your expectations versus reality.

Expectation and reality

There are some things you can take into account to achieve what you want. A few tips:

    • Bring an example of what you want and preferably several (with nuance differences). This way, the hairdresser can think along with you and indicate that if something is not possible, what the alternatives could be, etc.
    • Try out such a program on the internet at home with your photo and the desired hairstyle. Show this to those around you and ask honestly what they think.
    • Listen to the hairdresser to what he/she has to say about your request and discuss carefully.
    • If you know that your hair can react very specifically to things, also report this to the hairdresser. He/she can then take your hair into account and use other products, for example.
    • Find some references about the hairdresser you want to go to.

Finally

Hair is important, but you also have a role in clearly explaining what you want versus what the hairdresser has to say. Take your time and also get good advice for styling.
