Sintesis protein merupakan proses pembentukan partikel protein yang melibatkan sintesis RNA dan dipengaruhi oleh DNA. Mekanisme sintesis ada dua tahap yaitu transkripsi dan translasi. Transkripsi adalah sintesis RNA pada suatu cetakan DNA dengan enzim RNA polimerase. DNA memiliki dua untaian, untaian yang satu sebagai cetakan disebut template dan yang satu menjadi komplemennya. Translasi adalah sintesis polipeptida dengan menggunakan informasi genetik yang dikode pada suatu molekul mRNA. Translasi dilakukan di ribosom. Di dalam ribosom kode-kode yang dibawa oleh mRNA akan diterjemahkan oleh tRNA menjadi asam amino. Pada gambar di atas mRNA akan memasukin ribosom dan menjalani proses translasi (Y) dan bertemu dengan tRNA. tRNA akan membawa asam amino (Z) untuk membentuk untaian polipeptida (X).
Jadi, bagian pada huruf Z adalah tRNA? yang membawa asam amino.
